I have had a soured water smell that seems to be coming from my kitchen sinks and clothes washer for several weeks, (but not in between those rooms or in our bathrooms yet...). I've tried baking soda down the drains in the kitchen and a special citrus-smelling deodorizing balls designed to be ground up in the garbage disposal, but that hasn't helped. Any ideas?

Thanks so much!

P-traps
P-traps are designed to hold water so that sewage gases don't come up into the house. They are doing their job well in the bathrooms. The problem is that you need to clean out the p-traps in your kitchen and laundry room. They obviously have deteriorating residue that is less than pleasant to smell. The one under the sink will be easier to remove and clean. I would manually do that one rather than using any harsh chemicals. To keep it from happening again, you may want to regularly use a non-caustic enzyme-bacteria product like Roebic Bacterial drainpipe cleaner. It is safe and easy to use and will prevent your problem from coming back.
